Job Title Fiber Technician

Location: Davenport, IA (able to travel to Mason City, Des Moines, & Sioux City on occasion)

Salary: $70k annually (production pay, not hourly or flat salary)

Requirements: Technicians are required to provide their own vehicle capable of carrying a 28' telecom ladder. A per job per diem will be given for use of your vehicle. ** Prior telecom company or telecom contracting experience required **

Position Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Fiber Technician to be responsible for the terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing of all fiber optic cables within the systems fiber optic networks and their related equipment with the end goal of providing maximum operating efficiency.

Job Description:

As a Fiber Technician at you will play a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and optimization of our fiber optic networks. You will be responsible for terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing all fiber optic cables within our systems to ensure maximum operating efficiency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Fiber Optic Cable Termination: Terminate fiber optic cables using industry-standard connectors and fusion splicing techniques to ensure optimal signal transmission.

  2. Fusion Splicing: Perform fusion splicing and connectorization to create reliable connections between fiber optic cables.

  3. Bonding and Grounding: Ensure proper bonding and grounding of all fiber optic equipment and related infrastructure to maintain safety and signal integrity.

  4. Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all fiber optic cable terminations, splices, and related activities using digital documentation tools.

  5. Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks using specialized equipment to identify and resolve issues promptly.

  6. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all installations and repairs meet industry standards and best practices, providing top-quality service to our customers.

  7. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to create a safe working environment for yourself and your team members.

  8. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on fiber optic equipment and tools to ensure they are in optimal working condition.

  9. Emergency Response: Respond to network outages and emergencies promptly, collaborating with the team to restore services efficiently.

  10. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and project managers to achieve project goals and deadlines.

Nice to haves:

  • Perform all setup, testing and maintenance required for Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) installation of Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), DSL and Networking services
  • Install and maintain CPE Local Area Networks (LAN) and WiFi networks

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Fiber Technician or similar role in the telecommunications industry.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic cabling, splicing techniques, and termination methods.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard testing equipment (OTDRs, light meters, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Safety-conscious and able to follow safety guidelines rigorously.
